ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON CONTINUES
After an extremely slow start to the 2009 hurricane season, the Atlantic and Western Caribbean came alive with Ana, Bill and Claudette. Although Ana proved to be very little threat and Bills only real threat was to shippnig lanes and coastal areas he did reach category 4 strength and caused deaths. Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall in the Florida panhandle with 50 mile per hour winds and significan rain causing severe flooding in low lying areas. Although Claudette did not have a lot of time to intensify before making landfall she reiterated the need for being prepared. She provided very little notice before developing into a tropical storm and coming ashore. Had she developed into a hurricane or struck a more populated area, there may have been little time to secure property and evacuate low lying area. Now is a good time to re-evaluate your plans and preparedness activities for the remainder of the hurricane season. Be sure to monitor the 2009 hurricane season by paying close attendtion to local new media or by the internet through the links provided above.
